About Me

My name is Jeremiah Cook. I was born in Beech Grove, Indiana, at St. Francis Hospital on Albany Avenue, on Friday, June 27, 1980. I grew up on Roseway Drive at 30th and Franklin, before the Bell System was broken up, and the nearby Shadeland Avenue corridor was the industrial and commercial hub of the Eastside.

My friends and neighbors were middle class union people and their kids who could afford the nicer things in life, until the cycle of urban and suburban blight took over in the late 90’s, and they moved to the suburbs. I went to St. Simon the Apostle School, which moved from where it was to where it is now around 2000. From St. Simon, I went to Scecina Memorial High School, where the sisters and the lay people instilled my principles of social justice and activism amid 90’s R&B, grunge, thrash, ska, swing, and all of the experiences with it.

I went away to the University of Evansville where fraternity shenanigans and teenage angst collided in a mental health maelstrom, after which I returned to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and graduated a year late with a B.A. in political science.
